Back to Penang (Part Three)
6th February 2011
the room hotel |
I have to wake up very early this day. My husband had to leave the hotel very early to catch the airplane.
I got my breakfast alone. My aunt and my uncle (they are already like my parent's brother and sisters when we lived in Penang 15 years ago so I feel the same....) picked me up.
My uncle Ahmad is a Malaysian who married an Indonesia, Auntie Suryani, and she is now already a Malaysian citizen. They met while Uncle Ahmad was studying at University of Gadjah Mada. Both are lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia.
After breakfasting with real Malaysian chanay, and other food in the hotel, I ate chapati at the Pasar Taman Tun Sardon. I bought Malaysian cookings stuff at the wet market, like the curry powder and such...
(as I did not take my own picture, I took the pictures of the market from http://burnqis.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html)
I ate their chapati |
The Market called Taman Tun Sardon. Sardon may be Sardono, a Javanese who born in Malaysia. |
I ate their serabai too. Or serabi in Bahasa Indonesia. |
Then, I went to Sharifah's house. She is a very successful businesswoman now, and her husband is very nice too. Although they are very rich, but they are very humble and friendly people. I feel blessed that I met these wonderful couple.
On that day we have an appointment with Cheng Keat and Nattrah. We met and had lunch at a good and simple kedai own by our schoolmate's parent, Sharifah's aunt and uncle.
Oo Cheng Keat is now a successful lecturer at a famous university in Malaysia. He shared to us his noteworthy life story even about the schooldays that we did not know.
Nattrah also shared her fruitful story to me. About her dad, that is so nice to me too, that passed away a few years ago. Oh, I miss pakcik Zaine now, and makcik Zaine, especially her tasty delicious Keropok Basah.
I only hope that Cheng Keat will find his "jodoh" soon. Hehehehe.. Amiin Amiin...
Cheng Keat, me, Sharifah, and Nattrah.
The food of our lunch were delicious.
But our meeting was even more precious.
Me and Nattrah Family. She has two beautiful daughters now and very nice husband.
I was very happy to meet her.
Nattrah even cry when have to leave the restaurant.
Nattrah was a very good friend to me and is always be.
She was my company in the school bus for almost 4 years with Kelly Teh too.
I feel very very blessed to meet her again. And I wish I can meet her again!!!
I do not want to say good bye to you, Nattrah!!!
It breaks my heart if I say that.
Summer. When the day is over
there’s a heart a little colder;
someone said goodbye,
but you don’t know why.
Somewhere there is someone keeping
All the tears they have been weeping,
Someone said goodbye,
But you don’t know why.
Is there a reason
Why a broken heart begins to cry?
Is there a reason
You were lost although you don’t know why?
Give me a reason
Why you never want to say goodbye.
If there’s a reason,
I don’t know why.
Always looking for meaning,
All the time you keep believing,
But I don’t know why
You won’t say goodbye.
Even when the sun is shining
You don’t see the silver lining,
But I don’t know why
You won’t say goodbye.
Is there a reason
Why a broken dream can never fly?
Is there a reason
You believe and then you close your eyes?
Give me a reason
Why you hide away so much inside.
If there’s a reason,
I don’t know why.
Is there a reason
Why a broken heart begins to cry?
Is there a reason
You were lost although you don’t know why?
Give me a reason
Why you never want to say goodbye.
If there’s a reason,
I don’t know why.
I don’t know why.
I don’t know why.
I don’t know why. (ENYA)

5th February 2011 -
15th Anniversary Reunion Party Class 1996
THE INVITATION:
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The inevitable has happened: We got old, married, gave birth, ballooned, buffed, sagged and best of all, had done so, fabulously.
Come next year, 2011, will be 15 years since we’ve stepped out of our glorious, tragically fun filled, semi-educated, adventurous lives as students of the ‘now’ great Sekolah Menengah Hamid Khan.
Like many significant and unrelated numbers such as 5, 8, 10, 18, 20 and 525, the 15th year (forcefully associated with aging), like many unquestioned commercialized traditions, is the year when we come together and celebrate our yesteryears in high school: when we were all high on youth, ‘innocence’, irresponsibility, ignorance, and being absolutely clueless. Oh and let us not forget questionable acts that are illegal in many countries.
My dear friends, macha’s, braddeeers, children.. nay; fellow offspring of the “bang-san” that is Hamid Khan: We graciously invite you, the Class of ’96 to “The 15th Year Anniversary Reunion Party” with the cordial theme: “Si Pek Kwai Lan” on the 5th of February 2011 (Third day of Chinese New Year)
So mark your calendars, cancel your dates and reject orgy parties for this once in a lifetime event:
Venue: TBA
Date: 5th of February 2010 (Saturday)
Time: 7:00pm – your pupils dilate or watery eyes of a drunken hobo.
Dress code: Decent, oh wait that would ruled out a lot of you: Smart Casual.
Cost: TBA / pax
Our merry men of uncommitted organizing committee members will decide on the cost and venue soon and will be announced here as soon as possible.
Kindly assist us in adding those who's have not been listed. GRACIAS!
Fun Fact #1: Our school was previously an all girls school called Island Glades Girl School.

The evening finally came.
At around 5 pm, my husband and Encik Muzaffar sent me to Sharifah's house. I have appointment with her that we will go together to the party. Also, our hotel was very near to her house.
I was very happy finally I met Sharifah. She was among my very first close friends at Hamid Khan (Actually the very first friends are Shahrizal bin Baharuddin and Nasran Shukery as both of their parents are my father's colleague). I remember the old days where we used to go and "melepak" at Komtar. I hugged her. And I realized that she is now a fine, matured and pretty woman.
I was very nervous actually. I mean, 15 years, you know. I try not to think anything. I am just too happy already. Sharifah were driving a bit distress by the road jam while chatting with me about the past and the recent. So actually I enjoyed every minute on the car with her....
At about more than 6 pm (well yes, I forgot the exact time) we finally arrived. Sharifah thought we were late already, but I believed not. When we arrived at Lone Pine for the reunion party, there were only Paul and Adrian Loh. We hugged them and we laughed as we were actually the first who came (considering Paul and Adrian are the committee of the reunion right?)
Some of the food that actually I am prohibited to eat. The shrimp is kosher for me. But the shell can't. I strictly follow Dawoodiyan diet. Picture taken by Alfred Tan. |
I am not sure whether I ate this food. Picture taken by Alfred Tan |
We thought because of the road jam everywhere to Lone Pine, the rest of us came late and very late.
Here I upload my collection of pictures and my comments of each.
Some of the pictures here are taken by Darrel Ang and Alfred. But the last ones are specially by Alfred.
Some of the pictures here are taken by Darrel Ang and Alfred. But the last ones are specially by Alfred.
Sharifah and me. She lives as a happy businesswoman now, and a happy mother now. She has two daughters who are the same ages with my daughters. I remember that in the past, we used to play at Komtar, melepak, and when we passed the Komtar that day, we laughed at how naughty we were....
Haridheren, Prakash and Derrick Lim. They are very good fathers now.
Prakash Poobalan and Alfred Tan. Prakash had to leave the party early because his pregnant wife is in sick. He is truly a good husband. And Alfred? He just got married.
Paul Soo, the everlasting leader of our Class 1996. I remember he was our Head of Student. He arranged every reunion party so well, especially this 15th party. And at the party the guys forced me to admit that I was admired him. Well, yes guys, of course, who do not admire good guys? But actually it was not only him. Hahahahaha....
Chuah Keat Hooi and Alfred Tan. They showed me two things after 15 years: One never changes his body, the other has grown his body. Keat Hooi married a Hamid Khan too, Mary Cheah, and they brought their junior to our party! And both of them look the same as 15 years ago, as slim as time never changes them!!!
Darrel, Prakash, Alex Yeoh, Paul, Harinath, Sharifah and Hazyunie.
Darrel Ang brought his own camera for the party. A good camera. And took all these pictures here. He is a successful contractor now. But, he never changes. I think all of us too. Our characters never change after all these years. Alex Yeoh married Adelene Chin, our class 1996 too. Hazyunie finally made her way to come to this wonderful party. I talked a lot with Prakash and Harinath. They are successful guys too now. Harinath told me his story and I felt blessed that he wanted to share his fruitful life story.
I do not know what are they talking about.
But it seemed so serious lah?!
Hmmm, I regret that on that day no one from us singing or dancing. Hahahaha...Why only eat and talk?
This is my favorite picture! Me and Lim Ti Jen, my best friend since...can't remember since when...I used to steal his orange comb while we were in form 4 and form 5. The comb always catch my eyes. I do understand know why! It is because that kind of comb is Ti Jen's favorite. He still got the same kind comb and if one lost, he always buy the same one. Same brand. Same color. That's why I like the comb too. Because I like the owner very much too. Ti Jen! I will miss you very much, remember the old days you often share your story, and me, share my stories to you. Hahaha..Thank God you have a good wife and going to have a baby very soon!!
I think I am the only orange in this picture.
I am sorry girls, I think in the past you were my naughty friends who now turns as the beautiful princesses...Hehehehe...
Tan CH (I corrected your name already my dear), hmm a very calm guy, I hardly remember whether we have been in the same class or not. (Well he answered, that we were in 2 Ungu. Oh Yes. Remember there was Ti Jen, Ming Sung, Joel Tham and Pn. Mahani)
So many great pictures taken by Darrel Ang, and he was behind these great pictures! Darrel, you are like a candle that burns himself for giving us the light.
Oh, there is Adrian Loh among them here. He was my class monitor and I remember he had so many love stories in our school, weren't you Adrian? And he still as handsome as 15 years ago.
There he is, my good friend Chiko (Khoh Chin Seong). He sat behind me in the class for two years and I think he never change too. He continues his father business at Langkawi, an electronic shop. He loves to bike too. I think the spirit of sport of him still exist very well. I remember he gave me his gold medal of "running" as I never have one. You know I am not very good at sport at all.
Would you like to see my picture with Ti Jen and Prakash 15 years ago, and you decided yourself whether we change or not?
Yes, this is me with Ti Jen, Prakash, and Oh Chin Keong in 1996 (July) - we were infront of our class (5 Sc1 and 5 Sc 2)
Lazy old day
Rolling away
Dreaming the day away
Don't want to go
Now that I'm in the flow
Crazy amazing day
One red balloon
Floats to the moon
Just let it fly away
I only know
That I'm longing to go
Back to my lazy day
And how it sings and how it sighs
And how it never stays
And how it rings and how it cries
And how it sails away... away... away.... (ENYA)

We walked the road together
One last time
By moonlight,
As underneath the heavens
The slow chimes
At midnight,
But nothing is forever
Not even
The starlight
At midnight
Not even
The moonlight...
Oooh, remember this,
For no-one knows
The way love goes.
Oooh, remember this,
For no-one knows
The way life goes.... (ENYA)
Me and Encik Naresh, our Additional Mathematic teacher (it is mathematic for science classes). I admitted to him that I never enjoyed Math classes. Although I like him. But I never like higher Math. Simple mathematic for housewife like me is fine. Hahahaha....
Encik Naresh and the bad boys. They all admitted what they had been through the years to him. Especially one who failed SPM and such...
David Ooi Thean Se and me. My long lost friend who still remember me very well and I have to open my old albums in order to see his younger face. His wealth life has make grown him and I am happy for him!
Danny Luah Chin Eng and me. I added him on FB first of all because he was Hamid Khan, and then because he always play games in FB. Hahahaha...He is so funny and nice guy. I enjoy listening his stories.
Why is this picture looked so blurred?
Oke this is all the people who came to the party!
Despite all the troubles, the hatred, the loves, the happiness, all the past that we have passed: Only time will answer....We finally met that night, and not sure about tomorrow...
Who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows?
Only time...
And who can say if your love grows,
As your heart chose?
Only time...
Who can say why your heart sighs,
As your love flies?
Only time...
And who can say why your heart cries,
When your love lies?
Only time...
Who can say when the roads meet,
That love might be,
In your heart. (ENYA)

Darrel, I am not ready my dear!
Three handome guys: Kang Soon Guan (Adrian Kang), Joseph Teoh, and Adrian Loh. Their laughter makes me so happy too!
My! My! Time flies! One step and we're on the moon, next step into the stars
My! My! Time flies! Maybe we could be there soon, a one way ticket to mars
My! My! Time flies! A man underneath a tree, an apple falls on his head
My my time flies a man wrote a symphony, it's eighteen hundred and twelve
My! My! Time flies! Four guys across abbey road, one forgot to wear shoes
My! My! Time flies! A rap on a rhapsody, a king who's still in the news, a king to sing you the blues
My! My! Time flies! A man in a winter sleigh, white white white as the snow
My! My! Time flies! A new day is on its way, so let's let yesterday go
Could be we step out again
Could be tomorrow but then,
Could be two thousand and ten (ENYA)

The childish characters of us still remain....
When the stars are in the skies,
make a wish then close your eyes.
Are you dreaming,
angels singing,
everything is right.
It's the magic of the night.
Far horizons made of snow,
bring the hopes each child will know.
Someone's dreaming,
bells are ringing,
everything is white.
It's the magic of the night.
High up in the sky, can you see a shining light?
Can it be that we can see an angel who is flying, flying?
Can an angel lose their way,
who of us on Earth can say?
Someone's dreaming,
angels singing,
everything is right.
It's the magic of the night. (ENYA)

THE NEXT PICTURES are especially taken by ALFRED TAN
(Alfred Tan is our great photographer. Thanks to him)
Mary Cheah is here. She looks very pretty. Look at Ti Jen. I love to see him bringing Hooi-Mary's daugther!
Tan Chin Liang, a great smile and a glass of beer.
Oh, of course I did not drink the beer.
Darrel seduced me to do so. Lols.
I don't know why Paul Soo looked at the camera this way. While Vincent Chang Sey Ling look as handsome as usual.
I hope this was not the Last Supper.
Beautiful pictures. How I miss them a lot now!
Gorgeous picture. Alfred Tan is really talented at capturing the faces! And of course because Sharifah and Hazyunie are beautiful.
Four successful guys in white and black dress. Going to be Forbes cover models.
In the meeting we also talked business.
And we also smile and happy!
And Haridheren was also playing around and joking as his natural talent to make us happy!
Haridheren (we called him Hari Bulu, actually I don't know why, just guessing) and Adrian Kang Soon Guan. Oh, yes, A Guan was also among the one who make this reunion party happens! Thanks a lot to him.
Derrick Lim.
Khoh Chin Seong. My good friend at Science classes.
The blessing and joyful party.
Chin Liang and Harinath was sitting beside the lovely couple: Alex Yeoh and Adelene Chin.
So serious. I like this picture.
You can see that they are still as handsome as I knew them 15 years ago.
I love their smiles.
Joseph Teoh and the girls (yes girlllssss!!!)
White and black again.
Darrel Ang. Although he moved from Hamid Khan since form 4 but he loves us and he still came to us, to meet all of us...He was and is always be a tennis player. He even named his son Nadal. What a tennis-lover!
Thanks to Alfred, for making it look perfect in this picture. Hehehee...
15th Anniversary Reunion Party. At Lone Pine. Batu Ferringhi. Penang.
5th February 2011.
Where are you this moment
Only in my dreams
You're missing, but you're always
a heartbeat from me.
I'm lost now without you.
I don't know where you are.
I keep watching,
I keep hoping,
but time keeps us apart.
Is there a way I can find you?
Is there a sign I should know?
Is there a road I could follow,
to bring you back home?
Winter lies before me,
Now you're so far away
In the darkness of my dreaming
The light of you will stay
If I could be close beside you,
If I could be where you are,
If I could reach out and touch you,
And bring you back home. (ENYA)
Harinath Bala. His fruitful story. Enlightening friend...
Kang Soon Guan in purple.
It's a like meeting of a mafia family. Or somewhat taken 1940s during World War II. Anyway, what an art Alfred has done so great.
Paul Soo will always be our leader...He always has the great leadership...
Everyone was happy. Adelene was. Ti Jen was. Me too. The guy next to me (Darrel) was too.
Red and Green. Very colorful. Both also look the same.
Hahahaha....I am very happy to see this picture.
I like this picture too. Chin Liang never change too. Can still hear his voices. Chatting with him so much like we chat with him 15 years ago.
Black and white again!!! So many friends wore black or white or black-white dresses that night.
Ever close your eyes
Ever stop and listen
Ever feel alive
And you've nothing missing
You don't need a reason
Let the day go on and on
Let the rain fall down
Everywhere around you
Give into it now
Let the day surround you
You don't need a reason
Let the rain go on and on
What a day, what a day to take to
What a way, what a way to make it through
What a day, what a day to take to a wild child (ENYA)
Oh, yes, Encik Naresh scold you again Chiko..hehehe...But he was smiling, so fine then...He just wants you to make sure you give him discounts, a large discount, when he buys at your shop.
Oke, Cikgu, I will give you big discount...hehehehe...Chiko, how I miss you now...you are still very shy and calm guy, but loving and can joke with us...
Encik Naresh looks so happy with us the pretty girls!!!!
Encik Naresh and his vegan dinner. I like his religious diet.
"Good catch, Alf" ~ Joseph Teoh, a lovely guy.
Vincent. Reminds me to a Taiwan actor. Any idea?
Adelene. Always happy and smiling. She was also like that when we were in Hamid Khan. Though she was a strict prefect. Bless you Alex, she is wonderful mom. I love to read her blog and it inspired me to write this blog.
Looks like son and father...Only thing is...
Come here, midnight chimes
Come here, bells that are ringing
And from some distant shore
Sounds of a journey, echo on
This is the night
They say,
Everyone wants a dream.
This is the night
They say
Nothing is as it seems.
Come sleep, close your eyes.
Come sleep, give me your sorrow.
And I keep watch for you.
Until the dawn is, breaking through.
Until the morning wakens you.
Da, Da, Da...
Come dream, through the night.
Come dream, and then tomorrow
They'll see who, what will know.
Dreams are more precious than gold
Dreams are more precious than gold
Dreams are more precious than gold (ENYA)
Good Job, Alfred...Paul...Adrians (Loh and Kang)...:-)!!!
